The bad news

Refrigerant legislation: the situation

Air con systems installed before 1 January 2004 may use R22 refrigerant

After 1 January 2004 all-new systems have to use a ‘modern’ refrigerant eg R410a

New legislation bans the use of new R22 refrigerant in servicing existing equipment after 31 Dec 2009

Your options

Existing R22 systems

MHI R22Option A: continue to use system
Use reclaimed R22 for service. Reclaimed R22: expensive

MHI R22Option B: continue to use system
Use R22 drop-in replacement for service. R22 drop-in: expensive and less efficient

MHI R22Option C: UPGRADE WITH R22 RENEW
Continue to use the existing pipe runs, and possibly some old units, with new R410a refrigerant: less disruptive and less cost than an all-new system

MHI R22Option D: FIT ALL-NEW SYSTEM
Replace the old R22 units and pipe runs with an all-new R410a system: maximum efficiency and shortest payback
